Sourdough Inclusions: How & When to Add Flavor to Naturally Leavened Bread
Join us for a hands-on exploration of sourdough inclusions, designed for home bakers who want to add flavor, texture, and creativity to their sourdough bread with confidence.
In this class, we’ll focus on the art of incorporating inclusions—such as herbs, cheese, olives, seeds, nuts, and dried fruit—into sourdough dough. You’ll learn when to add inclusions during the fermentation and folding process, how to incorporate them without compromising dough strength, and techniques for balancing moisture, flavor, and structure.
We’ll walk through the full sourdough process with an emphasis on timing, folding methods, and shaping strategies that support well-distributed inclusions and beautiful loaves. Along the way, we’ll share tips for scheduling, troubleshooting common inclusion challenges, and adjusting hydration based on the ingredients you’re adding.
Expect plenty of practical tips, visual demonstrations, and guidance you can immediately apply at home. You’ll leave with a detailed guide, a fresh-baked loaf, and the confidence to start creating flavorful sourdough variations of your own.
